Biography 

Joel McCarthy is currently serving as a Sergeant on the Boston Police Department, with over 20 years in Law Enforcement. Joel has faithfully served the Boston Police Department with Distinction, and has held the rank of Sergeant for over a decade. During this time Joel has provided Leadership, Mentorship and Guidance in the capacity as a Patrol Supervisor, an Anti-Crime Unit Supervisor, and as a Boston Police Department SWAT Team Leader

In Joel’s first 10 years on the Boston Police Department, he was a highly Distinguished and Decorated Patrol Officer working in the Neighborhood of Roxbury. Joel’s dedication to duty and intestinal fortitude soon became widely known, and it was at this point, that Joel was recruited to become a member of the Boston Police Department's SWAT Team

Combining 5 years as a Boston Police Department SWAT Team Operator, and 5 years as a Boston Police Department SWAT Team Leader, Joel has been, and continues to be, personally involved in over 500 planned and unplanned Critical Incidents inside and out of the City of Boston. 

Joel draws his Tactical, Technical and Leadership knowledge from a variety of personal experiences, including but not limited to the following Critical Incident Events: 

  • High Risk Warrant Service
  • Barricaded Subject(s)
  • Hostage Rescue Training
  • Dignitary Protection (Presidential, Congressional, Senatorial and High Level Business --Executives, as well as Secular Icons)
  • Critical Infrastructure Threat Assessment and Protection
  • Directed the Tactical Operations Center (T.O.C.) during the Terrorist Man-Hunt for the capture of the Boston Marathon Bombers; which included the coordination of all synchronized operations for the 13 distributed Law Enforcement Tactical Teams, as well as several supporting units during the search and ultimate capture.  

 

Before Joel joined the Boston Police Department, he dedicated himself to the security of our Nation, by joining the United States Air Force, and then the United States Army. In total Joel gave 20 years of his life to our Country, and his accomplishments over his 20 year career are impressive, and only move to showcase the Leadership Foundation that Joel provides as one of the Co-Founders of First In The Nation-1854 LLC.

Upon retiring from the United States Army with 20 years of Federal Service, Joel had risen from the Enlisted Ranks of an E-1 Private, to the Rank of Chief Warrant Officer, with a storied career as a United States Army Aviator (Black Hawk Helicopters).

First In The Nation-1854 LLC is particularly proud of Joel for flying over 500 Combat Flight Hours as the "Pilot in Command" during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
